Papa Gede’s

Feeling down? Forget your troubles and ask Papa Gede’s for some voodoo healing!

Papa Gede’s is giving me New Orleans’ voodoo vibes and very well could be your best weekend in Sydney.

What is it?

Papa Gede’s is an award winning cocktail bar that will “invoke your spirit.” Their extensive menu is bone chilling with drinks powerful enough to resurrect the dead then send them back to their graves. Papa Gede’s also make their herbal elixirs and absinthes. Yes, they make their own absinthe! And they carry other Swiss, French, and Australian Absinthe varieties, providing you with ample options to trip on the green drink.

What makes it unique?

At Papa Gede’s you can have drinks and a show. Every third Tuesday of the month, Papa Gede’s hosts a comedy night with some killer headliners. In April, they had Tom Ballard, host of ABC’s Tonightly with Tom Ballard, headline comedy night, and of course, it sold out. Voodoo, drinking, and ace comedy sound like the intense, freaky weekend I have been waiting for.

How do I get it in my life?

Papa Gede’s is located at 345 Kent Street. An intimate hangout spot in the heart of Sydney’s Cbd. If you want to bring the voodoo vibes home with you, you can purchase Papa Gede’s merch!

What’s the #insidertip?

Lara, owner and operator of Papa Gede’s, advises folks to ask for the Zombie, Divine Intervention, or a sample of their house-produced Baron & Sons Absinthe. If your weekend is free of responsibilities, I strongly suggest you dance with la fee verte. Also, ask for Josh to make you a Gambling Priest–gin, Montenegro, salt, and honey, a little something to satisfy your sweet taste buds. It is no longer on the menu, but if you ask, he will hook you up!

Also, this joint is dog-friendly. So, let man’s best friend accompany you to Papa Gede’s.
