What is it?
Eathouse Diner is more than its five-star rating, and despite my slightly crude humor, this place is not the topless bar you may or may not have been hoping to read. But it is Redfern’s top restaurant for South American-inspired food, banana splits, and vintage nude photos. With an evocative reputation, the menu sensationalises the 1980s, offering the comfort food we all know and love. Their signature dishes include the bbq pork ribs with cabbage and carrot slaw, cauliflower and ricotta fritters, as well as the baby squid and chorizo gumbo, and I honestly can’t think of anything more comforting than a big steaming bowl of gumbo!
What makes it unique?
The food is excellent, yet it is the atmosphere that attracts the crowds every weekend, and because people come in numbers, they have designed a special banquet menu for parties over four. This request is popular and in-demand, and now for fifty dollars a person, you will have your share of ten dishes including two desserts. Eathouse also hosts a smorgasbord of different events like weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthday celebrations, and cocktail parties. I’m telling you it’s a vibe that everyone wants to be a part of.
How do I get it in my life?
Eathouse Diner is located at 306 Chalmers Street, across from Redfern Park. The venue is open Monday through Saturday, and bookings are recommended! And if you love to drink while saving money, happy hour is from five to seven every night and all night on Mondays! You will find me there on Monday…
What’s the #insidertip?
If you are looking to eat big tonight, order the southern fried chicken with a serving of polenta chips, roasted eggplant, and of course a banana split. This is my order and manager Rodney’s order, and you can’t go wrong!
