What is it?
Named after the famous Kalgoorlie showgirl, Lalla Rookh Bar and Eating House is home to modern Italian food and over three-hundred Australian and Italian wines. Head chef Alexandra Haynes and sommelier and wine store manager Jeremy Prus steer the ship and together have cultivated an authentic Italian experience in the heart of Perth’s CBD. On the menu, you will find specials like the famous “Alexandra’s crab spaghetti, pork neck tagliata, and an extensive selection of pizzas. You will never go hungry, and you will always find a place to sit and relax; the venue is widespread with a lounge, bar, courtyard, and dining room.
What makes it unique?
The wine staff are knowledgeable, and every month, Jeremy Prus shares the knowledge in what he calls the “mixed dozen.” Each month Jeremy curates a list of twelve local and imported wines that are available for home delivery. The package price is generous and discounted, making it hard to pass up twelve, carefully selected bottles of wine from the expert, himself. The mixed dozen runs while supplies last, then it is on to the next month! Jeremy’s program is an excellent opportunity for wine drinkers to broaden their palettes and for lazy wine drinkers like myself, who want to be told what to drink, no questions asked.
How do I get it in my life?
Lalla Rookh is located underground at 77 St Georges Terrace at Allendale square, and trades between 11:30 am till midnight, Mondays through Saturdays.
What’s the #insidertip?
According to Function Coordinator, Teagan Anderson, Lalla Rookh regulars order the il Capo. This menu item allows the chef to order for you and serves six seasonal specials as a series of shared plates. Teagan advises this is the best way to get the full Lalla Rookh experience, and I suggest you take her word for it!
