We Love Byblos’ New Winter Menu & Cocktail List

Last Monday night I was lucky enough to be invited to Byblos to experience their new Winter menu and cocktail list. I have been to Byblos before and have always loved the ambience and view, but I had never particularly paid too much attention to the menu. I tend to err on the side of caution when I order food or drinks which generally results in eating pretty much the same thing everywhere I go. So for this experience I decided to leave all of the decision making to our fabulous waiter Mundhir and bartender Mark.

I am so glad I did.

For entrée we had the haloumi salad, Hommos Shawarma (which basically puts succulent lamb pieces in your hommos) Baba Ghanouj…. The Baba Ghanouj was unexpectedly finished with pomegranate – an amazing combination! I love the way the pomegranate seeds pop in your mouth! (Check out the photo below!)

For our main course we had the Pupkin Kebbi, a selection from the mixed platter, the Soujouk,  the chilli prawns and the Byblos Salmon.

And I am going to stop you right here and rave about the salmon… fresh salmon sashimi marinated with a wasabi, soy and ginger sauce; served with cornichon and baby capers. I avoided the capers… but the flavour from the salmon was unbelievable… better than any salmon I have ever tasted. I would go back for that dish alone.

For dessert we had this amazing chocolate pudding that oozed a rich chocolate sauce when you broke the outer cake layer…. To die for!

For cocktails we enjoyed The Tea Lady – a martini style drink featuring a wild peach flavour and finished with tea leaves;  the Jamaican Symphony Blazer – which combines a gorgeous rum and dark chocolate liquor, finished warmed up it is perfect for a cool Winter’s night! And finally we finished with the Hansel and Gretel’s Hot Buttered Rum…. Served hot, with mixed Guatemalan rum, gingerbread syrup and hot water with a little butter. Topped with rich vanilla foam and dusted with a fine sprinkling of port and cinnamon… (Check out the photo below!) by the time I had finished this one I was feeling warm on the inside, had a full tummy and was ready to lounge on one of Byblos’ gorgeous couches.

I left Byblos amazed by the wonderful flavours I had experienced, relaxed (surely from the warm cocktails) and cheery from the friendly banter with Mundhir and Mark.  Byblos is certainly the place to go to impress your dining partners!
