Valentine’s Day Style File with Cate Massi

Attn: Brisbane Fashion Lovers – it’s just over a week to go until the most romantic day of the year! So of course, the question of what to wear next Wednesday is a quip on every fashion gal’s lips. Like always, we’ve sought after the very best of Brisbane to bring some epic style advice Valentine’s Day edition. Our GO-TO girl? Indooroopilly Shopping Centre’s resident stylist, Cate Massi. In a fun interview, the fabulous Cate lets us in on her insider tips to spotlight your style for any date-night occasion…

BT: Cate! Thank you so much for letting us pick your brain about Valentine’s Day Style. Can you tell us a bit about some 2018 trends you love so far?

C: Of course, the 90s are making a huge comeback this year – think high-top sneakers, velvet chokers and loads of denim. I’ll be choosing check/plaid blazers, sequin skirts and men’s inspired suits, all loaded with pops of neon and bold colours. You’ll also notice textures of ruffles, sheer layering pieces & fringing. Take a nostalgic walk down memory lane at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, where you can pick up some of the looks that will most likely make their way back into your closet this year.

BT: How would you work that 90s look into a date night ensemble?

C: I’ll be reaching for bold colours and big statement pieces. If you’re stepping out for an intimate dinner with someone special, channel your inner Gwyneth Paltrow and slide into a simple black slip dress, paired with gold tassel earrings. Popping popcorn at the movies? Throw on a bright patterned jumpsuit, textured drop-down earrings and a neon pink cross body bag.

BT: We know some Valentine’s Day plans are kept as a surprise. Do you have any insider tips for someone who is planning an outfit but doesn’t know the destination? How would you style her?!

C: If you’re in the dark about what your significant other has planned, opt for something safe but fabulous. Comfortable pants are a must, dressed up with a flowy, feminine top. Confidence really is the best accessory. If you find yourself in heels at mini golf, roll with it! If ever in doubt, pop on into Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and book a styling session with me – I can help you choose the perfect outfit whatever the price tag with the centre’s variety of fashion retailers.

BT: Sometimes the best date nights are cuddled up on the couch. What are your style tricks and must-haves for a cosy night in?

C: First, take a trip to Essential Beauty at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre for a facial and a spray tan. Then, indulge in a silk pyjama set coupled with a luxe gold-tie necklace from Swarovski. Intricacy is key for an intimate night in.

BT: Our last question! If you could put together one universal shoe, bag and jewellery combo for any girl to rock this Valentine’s Day, what would it be?

C: It’s the most romantic day of the year, so why not take the opportunity to dress up? My ‘must have’ bag at the moment is the Fendi KAN cross body bag, and you can’t go wrong with Wittner’s Demitra Ankle Boot in white. Pair these with the perfect statement earrings from Oroton. Now, go and get loved up!
