Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year again. Spring racing season is well and truly upon us and the main event is just a week away. So what are your plans come Melbourne Cup Day? Celebrate with a podium finish (whether or not your horse places) at one of these fab venues hosting a Melbourne Cup function, or check in to local and get frocked up!
Here’s our pick for the punters and fashionistas alike…
Melbourne Cup Roof Top Garden Party at Limes Hotel
Hosted by Mike Goldman, Limes Hotel will be transformed into an orange and white adorned garden party channeling the preppy chic vibe of Veuve Clicquot. There’ll be an exclusive fashion parade featuring Gail Sorronda, Zingiber and Pistols at Dawn, a four hour canapé, premium house spirits and craft beers package (courtesy of Alfred & Constance), in-house betting facilities and DJ’s playing into the night.
Spring Food & Wine
Join Spring Food & Wine for a 3-course lunch and 3 hour drinks package to celebrate the race that stops the nation. This is definitely one for the foodies! You can expect chicken terrine, pistachio oil, pancetta crumble and brioche and lamb cutlets with caponata and harissa for the entrée, barramundi or eye fillet for mains and for dessert an almighty yoghurt panna cotta cherry glaze, bitter chocolate cremeux and a vanilla wafer with salted pretzel icecream. There will also be a charity sweep in support of Hear & Say, a fantastic organisation that supports the families of deaf children and teaches them to hear, listen and speak.
Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Melbourne Cup Gala
This one’s a winning trifecta for racing fans, trendsetters and fashionistas alike. A sumptuous 3-course luncheon (designed by Epicure and accompanied by Moet and Chandon and Craggy wines) will take place at Brisbane City Hall, followed by the main race on the big screen and a runway show featuring fashions from Alex Perry, QueensPlaza, Samantha Ogilvie and Mitchell Ogilvie, Paspaley Pearls and Monili Jewellers. Hosted by Channel Nine’s Melissa Downs, the event raises funds for AEIOU Foundation, for children with autism.
The Stock Exchange
It is the season for elegant garden parties, and ‘Stockies’ is getting in on the action too! Channel Nine Reporter Ebony Cavallaro is playing host to the event that features a four-hour canapés and beverage offer, live coverage of the Felmington Racecourse action, ‘Fashion on the Rooftop’ courtesy of The Myer Centre and an on-site TAB open from 8.30am. Also, the recently renovated downstairs area is hosting ‘Stockies Kitchen,’ a two-course lunch with Mumm Champagne for $45 if that’s more your thing!
Pink & Black Melbourne Cup at Watt Restaurant and Bar
Don your best pink and black combo and support Chicks in Pink as you celebrate the Melbourne Cup. There are prizes for best dressed, sweepstakes and raffles run by local charity Brisbane Youth Services, live acoustic music and a four-course lunch(salmon or eye fillet for the main) and four-hour beverage package.
Brisbane Racing Club
If you can’t be at Flemington come Tuesday, then the next best option is Brisbane Doomben Racecourse! There’s a whole bunch of luxury packages to choose from for the big day, or you can just simply head in on a general admission ticket ($20) and go from there. Mix and mingle with Brisbane’s social set and Fashions on the Field presented by Ted Baker.
