Laneway Learning

Looking for something new to do? Then you should definitely check out the cheap and fun classes run by Laneway Learning – a ragtag series of evening classes that cover a number of unique subjects including knitting, beauty, photography and cooking.

Classes are usually a one-off, $12 event held in buzzing Bean Café, a laneway café located on George Street in the city (right between Irish Murphy’s and Flight Centre).

Laneway Learning has only just started its initiative in Brisbane after finding success in Melbourne and Sydney, with attendee’s appreciating a new topic after each class and finding value in the informal learning environment.

So far Brisbane has had a ‘10 Quick Hairstyles from Workday to Runway’ class and another titled ‘Around the World in 80 days – cross-continental cycle touring,’ delivered by adventurer Greg Browning who has cycled in over 30 countries.

Don’t fret that you’ve missed these two crackers because the upcoming classes look just as good!

April’s classes are bound to capture your attention, with classes in the mix titled ‘iPhoneography for Foodies: Make your own cookbook’ (I’m personally excited about this one!), ‘The Art of Visual Storytelling,’ ‘Miso: Beyond Miso Soup,’ ‘How to Make Music – the wonder of everyday objects,’ and ‘Learn to Make Lemon Butter your Nan would be proud of.’ You can’t tell me that none of them ignite a little bit of curiosity inside you!

So jump online and register for an upcoming class, or check out the list of previous classes run in Melbourne and request a rerun in Brisbane – there’s worm farming, green cleaning, discovering the internet, language and culture, clothes repair, songwriting, beekeeping and more!
