Located in the historic Rowes Arcade in Edward Street is Brisbane’s newest hotspot for all Italian lovers, Jamie’s Italian.

Celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, is known worldwide for serving up simple, fresh and classic dishes in his restaurants, television shows and cookbooks – and there are no exceptions here in his Brisbane restaurant.

Caution: the following sequence may cause unexpected drooling, hunger pains or tummy rumbles.

For entrée, the antipasto or seafood “planks” are ones to try. They are beautifully served on long wooden platters in true Jamie style, resting atop of San Marzano tomato tins. The meat plank is piled high with Italian prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella and a crunchy veg salad to cleanse the palate; the seafood option is stacked with cured and crispy fish, Italian cheese, pickles and mackerel pate.

For the mains, a selection of hearty meals are on offer. Squid ink risotto, fillet steak with polenta chips, sausage parpadelle and Jool’s (Jamie’s wife) favourite tuna fusilli are just a few of the selections. There are also a number of lighter vegetarian options in the pasta and entrée selections for all you veggie lovers out there.

Any pizza I hear you ask? Not at this Italian place! It seems Jamie has decided to stick to what he knows best. As a pizza lover I can safely say this did not dampen my experience on the night – in fact I didn’t even notice the lack of pizza until someone asked me about it the next day.

All the delicious food aside, another highlight is the impeccable staff. They are full of enthusiasm and were more than happy to explain the ingredients, history and stories behind each dish. They all seem very proud to work under Jamie Oliver but I am sure he is just as proud to have them.

All in all, it seems Jamie has served up another success story here in the Brisbane store. It is definitely one to put on the ‘to do’ list. Buon appetito!
