Fashion Graduate: Marianna Tigani

Bold shapes; strong textures and contrasting fabrics encapsulate the wearer in a mystery of shadow… We talk to recent QUT Fashion graduate Marianna Tigani about finding the beauty in shadows… and life after uni.

Collection Name:

Just Before Nightfall

Collection inspiration:

The idea of Just Before Nightfall was the imagining of an apocalyptic world and how, when faced with dire situations – like the world we find ourselves in now –  the things that we love and value become even more so. It was about finding beauty in the shadows.

So you’ve finished uni… what now?

I have come down to Sydney to do some styling work and also collect some inspiration for my next collection, for which I am meeting with suppliers and stockists. When I return to Brisbane, I will be working on officially launching my label as well as undertaking some styling and costuming projects.

If you could be mentored by any fashion authority in the world, who would it be?

Carine Roitfeld and/or the late Alexander McQueen.

What would be your first question of them?

How are you so brave all the time?

What do you think your biggest challenge will be now?

Working away from the close-knit uni environment of friends and lecturers is going to be huge adjustment. Though I imagine the even bigger challenge of launching my label will probably keep me distracted.

How do you think living in Brisbane will influence your next career steps?

I believe living in Brisbane will empower me to create my own career opportunities. The fashion community in Brisbane, though small, is extremely supportive and innovative and I look forward to making a place within that.

What do you want the world to know about you?

That with everything I do, I aim to be as authentic as possible.

If I was a genie and could grant you 3 wishes… what would they be?

Calorie-free croissants, more hours in a day and eternal happiness for my family and friends.
