Welcome to the 2013 Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane! This year will see the festival return to the newly refurbished Brisbane City Hall on a run way designed specifically to show case, not only the best of Queensland’s home-grown designers, fashion retailers and emerging talent, but the beauty of our very own City Hall auditorium.

For those of you that are new to MBFF let me give you a quick lesson; since it’s inception in 2006 MBFF Brisbane has become recognised as Australia’s pre-eminent fashion event launching Spring/Summer collections and Queenslands standalone major runway programme.  Different to industry-only events, MBFF is consumer driven, directly promoting the local fashion industry by spotlighting new season collections as they drop in stores. This means that if you see something you like, you can hit the stores straight away and shop the collections.

With so much to look forward to BrisbaneThreads is here to guide you through the six days of fabulous fashion festival must see and dos!

Day one, the 25th August, is kicked off at 12 noon with an invitation only luncheon at Brisbane’s Stokehouse restaurant.  For those of you not lucky enough to be on the guest list don’t despair! Stokehouse is open daily and have a spectacular menu – put on your Sunday best and treat yourself to a champagne and oyster dining experience to get you into the Fashion Festival mood.

If Sunday lunch isn’t your couture d’jour, book yourself in for the Collaborations in Fashion walking tour.  Hosted by Gallery artisan an institution in itself and the launch pad for many a Queensland designer, not only is Artisan the trading name for Craft Queensland but they are also the support to design creatives from emerging artist to living legends.  Artisan aims to develop and launch local talent in the global market place and bring the finest international craft and design to Australians.

Meet at Gallery artisan at 3pm for this exclusive three hour behind the scenes studio tour that will take fashion lovers into the minds and hearts of collaborations in fashion.  Some of the collaborations include Gail Sorronda, Michael Zavros, Israel Rivera and Alison Kubler. Be sure to book through or phone 07 3215 0800 as places are limited, and for only $80 I’ll be taking two!

If you miss out on tickets to do the tour, drop into Gallery artisan for the latest collections and exhibitions; always fresh and entertaining this is the place to learn, buy and love local designers.

Rounding off day one, the doors to City Hall are opened for a red carpet exclusive cocktail reception to welcome our amazing designers, sponsors, media and lucky invited guests.  No need to fret if you’re not a VIP though, round out your day one with a cocktail at one of Brisbane’s many hot and trendy bars and restaurants, but make sure you get your beauty sleep, we’re in for 5 more big days of fabulous fashion and events!
