Autumn Fare: Brisbane’s Best Comfort food

Autumn – I love it. The weather (slowly) starts to cool down, the jeans and boots get pulled out from the depths of the wardrobe and the promise of winter fashion is only around the corner. And of course there’s the Autumn food. More appropriately, comfort food. The food that makes you feel like – dare I use this cliché- you’re getting a warm hug from mum. As the temperature  cools, there’s no better place to hole up than the local restaurant with a glass of red or a pot of beer. So here at BT we’ve found some of the coolest spots to warm you up.

International Hotel – Spring Hill

If you’re looking for the ultimate pub experience with a bit of a classy spin then this is your go to joint.  Pork croquettes, ox cheek linguine, char-grilled spatchcock, not to mention the Eaton Mess. De-lish. Definitely perfect for a bit of indulgence on cool night.  To top it off the International Hotel brew their own beer on premises. This is comfort food at its finest.

Beccofino – Teneriffe

If you love Italian food ( who doesn’t??) then you will adore Beccofino. This cozy restaurant in the heart of Teneriffe serves quintessential comfort food. Authentic pizzas and pastas accompanied with a glass vino in one of Brisbane’s best Italian restaurants – sounds like the perfect autumn night to me! This is one popular restaurant so my advice, make sure you book because it may be a bit of a wait for a table (either that or enjoy a drink at the bar).

Bamiyan – Coorparoo

It may not look like much but don’t let the simple decor fool you, this restaurant is the perfect spot to spend a wintry night. If you’ve never tried traditional Afgahni food then I suggest you make a visit to Bamiyan stat. Hearty curries, delicious rice dishes, Naan bread (need I go on?).  This is a great spot for a cheap eat with friends. It’s BYO so slip those drinks into a cooler bag and venture to the south side for some fabulous Middle Eastern fare.

Elio’s Osteria – Carina

Italian food and comfort food are synonymous. So of course there’s another Italian place to hit this list. And of course it’s Elio’s. If you’re a south sider no doubt you’d have made the trek to this comfort food haven at some point in your life. Cheesy pizzas, rich pastas and hearty mains – it’s a carb fest that even the most hardened health conch would have difficulty resisting. Decorated in traditional Italian style, coupled with dimmed lighting this is perfect place to seek refuge.

* Here’s a tip : the potato pizza is awesome. Carbs on carbs. WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE

So if you’ve had a bad day and you need a bit of comforting or the slightly cooler brisbane nights start to get a tad chilly, pop into any of these eateries and you’ll be guaranteed to feel warmed up and soothed in no time.
