When I heard that the average Australian has over 104 items in their wardrobe that they don’t wear I cringed. I tragically fall into that category… and it’s nothing to be proud of. So when I heard ahm by Medibank were hosting a fashion exchange I was in!
ahm Health Insurance is all about providing products for people who want the benefits of private health cover, without wasting money paying for things they don’t use. If only I hadn’t wasted money on all of those clothes collecting dust in my wardrobe!
The premise of a fashion exchange is to bring along 6 items of clothing that you don’t want (of course good quality and clean!); swap them for tokens; then wait for the exchange to begin when it’s every woman for herself rushing to get the best find! No cash is exchanged, it’s pure swapping genius.
The Brisbane event was held on the 10th of November, but there is still time to register for the Melbourne and Adelaide events here.
I had heard rumours that the Sydney event was crazy! So when I saw the faces of over 250 women creeping closer to the front of the queue at the Light Space venue, I thought it was probably best just to get out of their way! Brisbane did surprise me however, whilst it was serious fashion business everyone was quite civilised!
There were so many clothes, shoes and accessories to choose from that everyone I spoke to on the day reported that they had found a new favourite item for their wardrobe and were glad they participated in the swap! So, perhaps next time we need a new party dress we can call on our girlfriends and arrange our own swap..? Or we can just save money on our health insurance and spend the savings on that new outfit?! Ahhh forever a die-hard fashionista!
PLUS all leftover items were collected by the Red Cross to be redistributed to those in need, kudos to the team at ahm for being serious about eliminating waste!
