Active Vacation: Sunshine coast

Oh it’s that time of the year again when we’ve finished our Easter stash and finally put a halt to the chocolate cravings but still feel lethargic and bloated after weeks of festive indulgence. It only gets worse as the weather cools; dark mornings in the gym, cravings for hot, greasy food, parting with your warm bed each morning and devouring large amounts of comfort food are the side-effects of autumn and winter.

That is, unless, your health and fitness routine is in full swing and you are motivated to live an active lifestyle right through the darkest, coldest months. Enter the active vacation. A health vacation could be a weekend away with the girls, a week-long soul discovering journey or an extended stay at a health retreat where you can focus entirely on you and your personal health and wellbeing away from the hustle and bustle of the work, family, life balance. It’s a positive, educational, soul-nourishing way to feel refreshed, energised and ready to conquer. And, it’ll help set up your active living routine so there’s no excuses when you arrive home after your active escape. We like to call it ‘me time’ with a purpose.

Head north to the Sunshine Coast and dabble in all things health, fitness and wellbeing to reconnect with your body and focus on your health goals. Here’s what we’d do:

Visit Wholesome Cafes

There’s no denying the foodie in us, so we’d bee line to the best, freshest restaurants and cafes on the coast to graze the day away. A quick Google search brings up a collective of results for fresh juices, paleo bites, raw treats and healthy dinner options – in fact you’d probably need more than a week to try them all. We love the sound of The Paleo Place, Kunara Organic Marketplace, Raw Energy, Organika, Ground Organics, Get Fresh, Hot Pipi’s, Envy Café, Greenhouse Café and New Earth Café. Our pick of the crop though is definitely Beau’s at Kings Beach for their raw treats such as a raw cashew and cacao mocha tart, a raw raspberry, lime and coconut tart and a sticky date and quinoa cake.

Check Into A Health Retreat

If you’re serious abut loosing weight, finding balance in your life and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you should check into a health retreat such as Chi of Life to get you on the right track. Health retreats encourage positive weight loss through education, sustainable weight loss plans, tips on healing and living, healthy meal demonstrations and achievable fitness regimes. In the afternoon, opt for an afternoon walk on the beach as the sun sets instead of hiding out indoors. You’ll feel energised and refreshed, and it’s a great way to inspire you to live a healthy, active lifestyle when you are back on home soil. You’ll love it so much that you’ll forget you’re focusing on weight loss.

Spend Time Outdoors

When you’re not getting the blood pumping and preparing healthy meals, opt for activities that are outdoors rather than in for your down time. The Eumundi Markets, the Noosa Farmers Market, Mooloolaba’s Underwater World and a spot of shopping on Hastings Street are all great activities that you can spend the day doing that won’t work against your health kick.

Indulge in Personal Wellness

While eating well and exercising are important for positive weight loss, it is also crucial to look after your personal wellbeing and mental health. Practice yoga, Pilates and mediation on your own or with a group instructor in a peaceful place as the sun rises. If you still need some ‘me time’ head to one of the Sunshine Coast’s many day spas for some pampering and a splash of R&R before getting back into the healthy eating and active living.
